A Passion for the Arts

"Passionate -- ignited by her craft."  Spoken of a great photographer; true as well of a great lawyer.

WHY ART?

For pleasure, yes.  A break from the ordinary, yes.  But as with many things of serious value, there is more -- an extra dimension that is the source of its power.  The photographer's act is "representation."  Revealing and documenting something seen, but not previously known in that way.  This awakened vision comes from absorbing context and surroundings, through links, comparisons and juxtapositions -- perhaps dramatizing what is missing or misaligned.  Who are these people and what are their stories?

The lawyer's act is "representation" in a different realm.  Our calling is to stand in and speak for people of all kinds in perilous circumstances.  Whatever the complexities of the challenge or the enormity of the stakes, success, like artistic clarity, can be captured through the skillful use of vision and imagination -- knowing the landscape and the culture, reading the players and their goals, and then rethinking the picture so our client's truth is honored and rewarded.
